Scientific background of Indole-3-carbinol

I3C and Diindolylmethane have been discovered to influence the expression and function of biotransformation enzymes involved in metabolizing and eliminating various biologically active substances, including steroid hormones, medications, carcinogens, and toxins.

Preclinical investigations have indicated that the anti-estrogenic properties of I3C and Diindolylmethane might potentially decrease the likelihood of hormone-dependent cancers. Although the supplementation of I3C and Diindolylmethane has been shown to alter urinary estrogen metabolite profiles in women, their specific effects on breast cancer risk remain uncertain.

Additionally, preclinical studies have demonstrated that both I3C and I3C oligomers can impact multiple signaling pathways that are disrupted in cancer cells. These pathways include those governing cell proliferation, apoptosis (cell death), migration, invasion, and angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels).

Recommended dosage:

Indole-3-carbinol is available without a prescription as a dietary supplement, either on its own or as part of combination products.

Typical dosage ranges from 200 mg/day to 800 mg/day.

Research indicates that supplementation with I3C at doses ranging from 300 to 400 mg/day can lead to increased urinary concentrations of 2-hydroxyestrone (2HE1) in adults.

Preliminary clinical trials have shown that doses of 200 mg/day or 400 mg/day of I3C can improve the regression of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), a precancerous condition of the cervix.
